BlackBerry Ltd recently opened its Asia Pacific regional headquarters for cybersecurity in Malaysia as a symbol of commitment to the region. The office is functional and is situated in Cyberjaya near major hubs of technology and government infrastructure.
This headquarters is part of the broader regional expansion plan of BlackBerry and follows an important cybersecurity agreement with the Malaysian Government announced in November 2023. The effort included collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission in the development of the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE), the country’s premier training facility focused on enhancing the cybersecurity workforce of the nation.
For the vice president of cyber security for BlackBerry Asia Pacific, Tash Stamatelos, this is a very important market. “We are elated to establish our new APAC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur as part of the growth plan for the region,” she said. Stamatelos emphasized Malaysia’s future role as Chair of ASEAN in 2025, complimenting the efforts of the government in its advancement of digital transformation and regional collaboration in cybersecurity; continuous investment in skills, infrastructure, and so on, which makes Malaysia an attractive destination for global companies like BlackBerry.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil welcomed the decision of BlackBerry to have its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, saying that this initiative would not only benefit Malaysia but also enhance the region’s access to advanced cybersecurity solutions.
The new BlackBerry office in Malaysia’s CCoE comprises professionals from all functions, including sales, marketing, threat research, technical support, and professional services. These highly skilled trainers are well positioned to support cybersecurity initiatives both for Malaysia and the broader Asia Pacific region.
It may be considered one of the most important moves BlackBerry has made to enhance national cybersecurity in Malaysia, thereby consolidating its position at the forefront of technological innovation. Cooperation will probably stimulate both public and private sector collaboration in order to bring about a new wave of developments in regional cybersecurity capacity.
